These are the only beliefs that matter.

Beliefs.

There is so much in the word that it should stand alone. Such a powerful, controlling, positive, destructive, abusive and fragile thing. Beliefs literally make or break you. Empower or disempower you. Hurt you or heal you. Energise you or defeat you.

Positive beliefs are the one constant that you need to embrace if you are to reinforce your choices every day, once you decide to take action. Without empowering beliefs, discipline, consistency and good habits are impossible to instill in yourself.

You may have an existing limiting belief about yourself that says you aren't good enough and not capable of significant progress in those areas of your life you want to change. You might be haunted by previous experiences that have made you doubt your ability to stick to decisions and promises you have made to self. Your insecurities have overwhelmed and paralysed you. You are not alone. We all do things daily that erode our sense of self, who we think we are and could be, but our actions don't align with our beliefs and we stop making progress.

There is only one belief you need.

There is one simple truth that you must accept before you embark on this journey, and that is to believe that:

Change is possible.

If you don't believe things can change you are infinitely more likely to have no incentive to start or get back on the horse when you fall off. You are infinitely more likely to continue to have a negative view of yourself and you are infinitely more likely to believe the negative feedback to hear from the naysayers around you.

The good news is that you are in control. You just haven't reinforced those positive beliefs consistently enough to use them as an anchor and as your north star. Once you have anchored the beliefs that matter to you, there is a neurological cascade of consequences from feeling a sense of self respect that ensues when you align those actions to your beliefs.

The 13 lucky beliefs

Why 13? I was born on Friday 13th. Lucky for me!

You MUST believe the following:

  1. This is a game of biology. The body and mind are intricately linked. You cannot build an empowering mindset if you are tired, burned out, and consistently eat crap. Your diet and sleep will either make or break your ability to succeed.

  2. This is also a game of neurochemistry. Your internal narrative is fundamental to progress. Break negative thought patterns and replace with empowering ones.

  3. You must distrust your emotions when they give you an impulse and desire that moves you away from your goals.

  4. Comparison is the thief of joy. You will never be satisfied if your ambition, vision or goals are aligned to someone else's. It might get your fire started but it will burn you.

  5. You can't want the goal for someone else. Your driver must be YOU.

  6. Consistency is the most important thing you need to master to build credibility with yourself and earn self-respect.

  7. You must hold yourself accountable to the standards you set and hold for yourself. Reward and punish yourself. (Don't be alarmed, all will be explained).

  8. Desire and excitement for your goal can be cultivated.

  9. You will spend 60% of your time doing things you don't want to do to achieve the 40% of things you find fulfilling. Its wading through the 60% of shite that will make you proud.

  10. Everything moves towards ENTROPY. Its a simple law of physics that ensures that all things move towards standing still or failure. This concept is covered in the framework. Boredom kills more budding entrepreneurs than anything else. It will take a SIGNIFICANT effort to move past this and overcome entropy.

  11. It is in the pursuit and journey to reaching your goals that you will feel fulfilled. Studies, history and experience backs up this notion. Once you embrace this, you will find it easier to overcome the daily challenges and begin to love the process. Not on the outcome.

  12. Fuzzy feel-good mantras and affirmations alone won't move you towards your goals. You've got to put in the work.

  13. The world is a place where you can learn, grow, develop and get better. The amount of impact you can have on yourself and others is infinite.

You might need more context around some of these and a guide on how to start believing. The 100 Days to Unstoppable framework covers these and more beliefs that you need to embrace.
