MORE ABOUT

My Ethos

I am my biggest investment.

My happiness is intrinsically linked to how I show up for myself every day. My identity and values are tied to the belief that if I am not making progress in my life, then I am failing.

Throughout my career, entrepreneurial journey and life, I’ve gathered insights and established processes and frameworks that allow me to be disciplined, consistent, and make strides in achieving my goals.  I have spent over 10000 hours listening to mindset and neuroscience related podcasts and audibles, have intentfully read multiple life-changing books and written over 80,000 words in notes from these learnings; and that doesn't include my journaling and the personal insights into myself and my relationships.  And it's not just about learning - I have actively practiced and executed on this advice, through exercises and therapy to ensure I know what works for me. Everything that has had to take place internally for me to execute daily the promises I make to myself, to evolve the mindset that sometimes wants to hold me back, to stay disciplined, to keep the momentum, to look after my health, to educate my mind, to support other people, to be excellent at my job, to bring people together to deliver on a shared vision in my startups - it is all culminating into something that I hope will enable you to reach your own potential.

There is one simple truth and belief that you must have, however, before you embark on your journey – and that is to believe change is possible. In your mindset and in your ability to consistently make progress and build self-respect.

Your beliefs will or won’t serve you. Stopping yourself from progress because you believe there are more obstacles than solutions in your path, or that you aren’t capable of greatness – will make you stuck.

The danger of you stopping short of what you are capable of achieving in your life is guaranteed, and THIS is the reason you need to set your bar ridiculously high. You cannot aim low with your dreams, vision and what you know will elevate your joy, success and happiness.

No matter what stage you are at in your professional and personal life, you know deep down that you are yet to reach your fullest potential and feel truly fulfilled.

But to save yourself from a life of mediocrity, you have to be the hero of your own story.  You have to be the one to make the tough choices and take the right action to turn your life into the masterpiece you deserve.

Clarity is everything. Making the right decisions is fundamental. Learning the skills to enable you to execute your goals is critical. Consistency is a must.

I work with people who are striving for greatness and growth and who are willing to step and put in the work to make their dreams a reality. I truly believe you can choose to full-ass or half-ass anything in life. It's always a decision and how you feel about yourself will be dependent on this choice. You must be willing to be introspective. My Experience

17 years delivering digital transformation

My journey into Technology started with me sitting in Corks wine bar with my two besties.  I had just completed an English degree at King's College London and tried hard to get into MI6. I don't think my 21-year-old brain was built for those aptitude tests, but I can assure you I would smash all of them now ;)!  Both of my friends were doing degrees in Computer Science and I was feeling a little lost about my next steps.  So they said, "why don't you get into IT?", and I was like - "I don't even like typing". But when I looked at the career opportunities and numeration I thought, why not? I liked the idea of playing with circuit boards and doing something where the right answer was always binary - a one or a zero. No nuance. And I think deep down I was craving a new experience and a challenge.  On a whim (whim = strategy),  I decided to follow a boy to New York, took advantage of the free apartment and completed my Computer Science course. The whole experience was eye-opening, from the diverse types of people I met and the fulfilment I felt was enjoying the process of learning and being challenged. Throughout my career, I realised how important it was to keep refreshing my skills because it felt so good to accomplish new skills and it allowed me to ask for more money.

Money. This has been my driver for my entire career. Whilst I enjoy delivering,  growing people and being challenged, when it comes to my relationship with Corporates, it is transactional.   I know what I bring to the table and I have no problem asking for the relevant compensation.  Growing up I was not lacking, but my experiences with money were mixed. I saw how easily it could be lost and what effect that had on a family.  I saw the importance of a woman needing to be independent of a man and very early on I knew I did not want to rely on anyone. I learned that money is freedom, but I have never confused it with happiness.  I decided very early in my career that money would be my driver, and in return, I would put in the hard work to stand out against my peers and so this informed my professional strategy.  I moved horizontally and increased my pay, got new skills and increased my pay. I have known to be promoted and chose to leave the day my new business cards landed on the table and have chosen another role doing the same thing but with twenty percent more remuneration.  For the last 15 years, I have been in the top one percent of earners in the world, without reaching C-suite status and having the freedom to pursue other adventures.  Obviously, I eventually took more senior roles but I always knew I wanted to follow other creative pursuits and leave the office at 6pm (on average).  I made sure that every role was one in which I had the autonomy to make a difference and have full autonomy and control over my team, delivery and the continuous improvement of both myself and my direct reports.

I know this mindset, one where position title is not the priority, is not the norm and that most people only value a career that has an upward trajectory. However, I strongly believe you have to do what aligns with your overall goals no matter what societal norms predicate.

For the last seventeen years, I have focussed on delivering Digital Transformation for a number of companies and industries but largely within Banking & Payments.  My expertise lies in Business and Technology change management, from software to infrastructure, people and process.  I have led onshore and global teams to deliver within challenging environments, budgets, timescales and eye-watering politics. My role as a leader has always been to protect and nurture my teams, enabling them to shine and building loyalty through transparency in order to get the most from them.  The things I've enjoyed most about my corporate roles are being able to disseminate complex challenges into tangible solutions and cutting through the noise to make an impact.  I'm also insanely passionate about design, and products and I love to be challenged to deliver projects where other people have failed.

As a black woman in Technology, I have still been able to navigate the most complex environments and leverage relationships to ensure that I was seen, heard and renumerated. This is no easy feat and one of my biggest achievements. I believe we should not embrace or hide behind any narrative that leans on the difficulties women and black women in Tech face to allow ourselves to aim for mediocre.  Having said that, I know these challenges are real.  But cannot be an excuse.

Founder and creator of four social apps on the Appstore

As a serial entrepreneur, I have launched a number of apps and am working on several projects that focus on bringing about positive social change.  My vision is to deliver solutions that inspire and empower us to achieve our goals and make it easier for individuals and communities to better support one another.  My belief (and science backs this!) is that in order to be fulfilled you should focus on a life that impacts, enables and serves others.

I have completed the King's College London Accelerator, The London Business Growth Program and Capital Enterprise's OneTech program and I am confident that I will make an impact in the way we network, connect and communicate with the apps and projects I have initiated.

 I also consult for early-stage start-ups.

Mentorship and Commitees

Mentoring has been part of my journey since I started consulting in early 2000.  Being one of the few women in Tech, and having the right aptitude to navigate "the old boys club" I decided to start offering advice.  That grew into me signing up for a number of schemes and I also started to get referrals.  It's probably one of the most fulfilling things I do and I love to see change coming from within.

I currently sit on the Committee of The Amos Bursary (Girls Cohort) and TLA Black Women in Tech, providing mentorship and guidance on programs.

I also sit on the Committee at The Ned, London.
